5 Things you shouldn't do with your Teeth

People consider a smile to be the greatest ornament that one could ever wear and having a good smile can make the perfect first impression. The condition of teeth and the gums determine the quality of your smile, apart from that maintaining good dental hygiene is also important to maintain a perfect smile.

There are certain things like smoking, eating sugary foods or drinks, and teeth grinding that have negative impacts on your dental health if left unchecked. Some people may not even be aware that these habits are harmful.

Here are five things you shouldn’t do with your teeth:

CHEWING ON HARD FOODS/OBJECTS

It is a well-known fact that our teeth are extremely strong but the same teeth are not invincible. The strength of the teeth may deteriorate over time and it is not advised to chew on hard food or objects. Chewing on objects like hard candy, ice, or biting into bone while having meat can lead to chipping away of the tooth or reducing the layer of enamel. This will weaken the teeth even further and cause various problems.

BRUSHING RIGHT AFTER EATING ACIDIC FOODS

Our teeth have a protective layer called enamel and this enamel protects the teeth from bacteria. Teeth are extremely string but they have little holes and these holes absorb everything that they come in contact with. The enamel layer becomes extremely soft when you consume foods with high acidities, such as citrus or coffee and wine, so brushing your teeth immediately can have a negative effect. Brushing your teeth when the enamel layer is soft will result in the enamel layer being chipped away. Waiting 30 minutes before brushing gives your teeth enough time to harden and allows your saliva to wash away any debris.

 EATING SUGARY FOODS OR DRINKS

Children from a very young age are told that eating sugary foods can cause a lot of problems in the mouth. Sugary foods adhere to teeth enamel. These sugary foods cause a build-up of plaque and if teeth are not cleaned properly, this will result in the development of cavities. There is also a risk of cracking or breaking a tooth while chewing on hard candy.

 SMOKING

There is a clear warning on packs of Cigarettes and it is clear that smoking causes cancer and many other health complications. Smoking can also harm the teeth because the smoke is filled with a lot of impurities and when they pass through the mouth, the Carcinogens in cigarettes cause your teeth to become yellow. It can also turn your fingertips yellow and cause discoloration on your tongue.

 BRUSHING TOO HARD

Brushing is considered to be healthy practice but brushing too much or too hard is not good for the teeth too. The enamel layer starts wearing off if you brush too much or too hard and this can cause problems. Instead, try brushing at a 45-degree angle in small, circular motions.
